Brief History of 37J Company (Coy) of the Singapore Boy's Brigade

Introduction

The 37th Jr. Coy of Singapore Boys' Brigade sponsored by the church was formed in Sept 1987.  It was captained by Freddie Kang, an experienced ex-BB Boy and assisted by two SAF personnel, Victor Loh and James Lam.

Early Beginning

In Dec 1987, the Coy started its recruitment drive with children of Church members.

In Jan 1988, the Coy started its weekly parades on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 - 6:00pm

We recruited 13 Boys and it as only by Mar 88 that we were able to recruit the minimum 20 boys to form the Coy. Meanwhile the Officiers attended the Basic Officiers' Training Course conducted by BB HQ. All 3 officiers attended in April 88 and graduated 2 months later

Parades

The weekly parades were conducted in the Church premises for Drill, Christian education and indoor games. The highlight of the weekly parades which the Boys participated is the outdoor soccer and / or Rounders games at the field opposite the Church.

Outing to places of interest like Pulau Bukom, Oil refinery, Gardenia Bakery, Jurong Fishing Port, Ice Cream factory, Kim Chuan abattoir were both education and exciting for the Boys and Officer. Besides these places, the Boys were brought to Hikes at MacRitchie and Pierce Reservoirs, Bt. Timah Hills, P. Ubin and cycling at East Coast Park.

Annually we organized a 2-3 days camp at either in Church premises or at P. Ubin and on 2 occasions at Desaru Camping Site.

Charlton Primary School

By 1999, we were deprived of the field opposite the Church as it was developed into a condo. Through the connection of Peter and with God's help, we were able to conduct our parades at Charlton Primary School and even recruited the boys there. For 3 years (2000-2002) our activities were conducted there. By 2003, Charlton had to merge with another nearby school XinHua which already had a BB Coy.

Zhong Hua Primary School

By God's grace 37th Coy was not left without a place to conduct its activities. In late 2002, meetings were held with Principal of Zhong Hua Pr. School who has keen to start a BB Coy in his school. He was also very helpful in allowing the existing Boys from other schools to join in the weekly parades.

Starting from Jan 2003, we had our weekly parades on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 11:30 am
