Serangoon Student Care Centre

WE BELIEVE IN THE WELL-ROUNDED DEVELOPMENT OF EACH CHILD Due to a growing need in Serangoon area for before and after school care services, the South East Community Development Council and the Bethesda Church Bukit Arang jointly set up Serangoon Student Care Centre at Blk 220 Serangoon Ave 4. It was officially declared open on January 26, 2002 by our Guest-Of-Honour, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, MP for Marine Parade GRC and Adviser to Serangoon. This centre is an extension of the Bethesda Student Care Centre which has been successfully operating since 1995. Our objective is to meet the needs of working parents providing an all-rounded care for children between 7 to 14 years outside their school-going hours.

Facilities -- Our multi-coloured rooms are bright and cheery, bringing out the vibrance and energy of a student care centre. We have a spacious multi-purpose hall where the library, movie and music corner is. All 10 PCs in the computer room are programmed with educational software for our children to work and research their projects. Outdoor facilities include a playground, a basketball court and an open field all within walking distance where group games and a variety of sports are organised.

Programme -- We have a capacity to accommodate 100 students under the supervision of very dedicated and experienced programme staff. Here, the children learn self-discipline, confidence and social skills through their daily routines and group activities. Nutritious meals which include tea breaks and lunches are prepared as well.

For each school holiday, there is a planned theme comprising both individual and group activities to stimulate the children's creativity in thought process as well as practical skills. Outings and field trips relating to the themes are organised weekly.

We believe in a strong parent-child relationship. Hence, our Centre also encourages parental involvement according to their interests and skills. Parental talks are organised periodically for the parents to better equip themselves.

As it is a community-based Student Care Centre, we would like to encourage all parents in the vicinity to make full use of the services that our Centre is providing.
