Extension Project

Bethesda Student Care Centre (BSCC) was launched in January 1995 as a community-based service as well as a neighbourhood outreach project. Our average student population to date is about 80, majority coming from Yang Zheng Primary School.

Since last year, we have introduced a Super Readers' Programme to help the weaker students improve their reading skills. A Tuition Programme for the weaker students was also introduced last September and we had received very good feedback from the children and their parents.

Every school holiday is a fully packed programme for the Centre, as most of the students will be at the Centre the whole day. We will have specific themes especially during the June and December holidays and all our activities (talks/sharings; art & craft; group and individual projects and even outings) will be geared towards the themes. Exhibition of the children's' works would be displayed at the end of the holidays for the parents' viewing

The children have also participated in numerous enrichment sessions such as, cookery; guitar playing; sewing; dancing; balloon-sculpture; first-aid which were either conducted by our Staff or by volunteers of the Centre. Last year-end holiday, we had a stay-in camp for all the children in the Centre. It was an exciting and learning time for both the children and the staff and volunteers.

The children have been brought to different places for field trips (factory visits; Science Centre, Singapore Zoo etc) and fun outings to the Parks and Gardens during the holidays, as well.

To foster closer teacher-parent and parent-child rapport, the Centre have organized Parenting Talks; Family Outings and Christmas events. The response and support from the families have been very encouraging. Since Dec 2000, with much time and effort from the children and staff, we have already put up 3 concerts for their families and friends. We're extremely proud of them.
